The story behind the name

Built on love.
Carried forward.

In 2019, DJ lost his brother, Johnny Ray Lopez, known as “Boingie.” He opened this barbershop in his honor, keeping his brother's name alive through the work, the people, and the community that come through the door.

Three years ago, DJ committed himself to a new path. Barbering became his craft, his livelihood, and a way to help others build something of their own.

Today, that purpose reaches beyond the chair. DJ mentors other barbers, brings people together, and gives back to the neighborhood. Every cut is part of a bigger story.

A Craft.
A Second Chance.
A Purpose.

For DJ, barbering is a way to build something that lasts.

Since returning home three years ago, he has put his energy into mastering the craft and helping other barbers grow. Johnny Ray's Fades carries his brother's name, and DJ carries that legacy into the work every day.

That means taking care of the person in the chair, sharing what he knows, and showing up for the neighborhood. A good haircut matters. So does what happens after it.
